Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Review: Old School Bollywood Comedy In A New Package
Film Review: Pati Patni Aur Woh Do
Director: Mudassar Aziz
Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh, Wamiqa Gabbi
Rating: ⭐⭐½ (2.5/5)

Situational comedy has always been one of Bollywood’s safest genres. Confusion, misunderstandings, extra-marital chaos, loud reactions and over-the-top situations. If written smartly, this formula can create magic. Unfortunately, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do struggles to convert its potential into memorable entertainment.
The film runs for 1 hour 57 minutes and from the very beginning, one question stays in mind, will Ayushmann Khurrana be able to save this sinking ship? The answer might become clearer over the next few days at the box office.
Let’s talk about what works and what doesn’t.
Story & Screenplay:

Written and directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film is set against the backdrop of Prayagraj, Kanpur and Banaras. The intention is clearly to create a rooted North Indian situational comedy. However, the execution feels outdated and repetitive.
The screenplay by Ravi Kumar heavily depends on confusion-based comedy, but after a point the misunderstandings stop feeling funny and begin feeling forced. The film had the ingredients for a laughter riot, but sadly the humour rarely lands.
There are moments where you expect the comedy to explode like a volcano inside the theatre, but instead most scenes feel like weak crackers that never fully burst.
At many places, the film feels less like a passionate creative project and more like a business arrangement where everyone simply showed up to fulfil commitments.
Performances
Ayushmann Khurrana sincerely tries to hold the film together. His expressions, comic timing and dialogue delivery show effort and honesty. Even when the screenplay weakens, Ayushmann keeps trying to lift the scenes. Hats off to him for carrying the film on his shoulders.
Sara Ali Khan delivers an average performance. She brings energy, but in several scenes the performance becomes too loud and exaggerated.
Wamiqa Gabbi unfortunately gets trapped in an underwritten character. The emotional connection never develops and the performance fails to leave impact.
Rakul Preet Singh looks graceful on screen as always, but the dialect work becomes distracting. The UP accent rarely feels authentic, and at times her dialogue delivery sounds like a confusing mix of multiple regional tones.

Supporting Cast Saves the Film at Places:
The real spark of the film surprisingly comes from the supporting cast.
Ayesha Raza Mishra steals several scenes with her natural performance and comic presence. Every time she appears on screen, the film suddenly feels alive again.
Vijay Raaz once again proves why he remains one of the finest performers in comedy. His police officer character brings genuine laughs and balance to the narrative. A few more scenes featuring him could have improved the film significantly.
Tigmanshu Dhulia, despite being such a respected director himself, continues to impress as an actor. His powerful politician character leaves a strong mark.
Durgesh and Shireesh also perform well within their limited screen time.
Vishal Vashishtha, however, feels wasted in the role of Sunny. His character remains underdeveloped and mostly exists as a helpless romantic figure in the story.

Music & Songs:
One of the film’s weakest areas is its music. The songs feel forcefully inserted without emotional connection to the narrative. Instead of elevating scenes, they interrupt the flow.
Some tracks feel designed purely for viral social media trends rather than storytelling. Even after leaving the theatre, very few songs remain memorable.
AMANOPEDIA Final Verdict:
Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is not a terrible film, but it’s definitely a missed opportunity. The film had the setup for a strong situational comedy, but weak writing and repetitive humour prevent it from becoming memorable.
It also feels like Bollywood is once again repackaging old 90s-style confusion comedies with modern styling, hoping nostalgia alone will work.
If you are a die-hard Ayushmann Khurrana fan, you may still enjoy parts of the film because of his sincere effort. But if you are expecting fresh writing, smart humour and memorable comedy, the film might disappoint you.
Now it’s your turn. Watch the film and tell us — did Pati Patni Aur Woh Do make you laugh or leave you confused?
